trekker (noun) – a traveler who makes a long arduous journey, especially on foot. (as hiking through mountainous).
heart-rending (adjective) – distressing, heartbreaking, painful.
out to do something (phrase) – keenly striving/try to do something.
distress alert (noun) – distress signal/call; it is an internationally recognized means for obtaining help. it is communicated by transmitting radio signals, displaying a visually observable item or illumination, or making a sound audible from a distance.
