  1. promising (adjective) – good, encouraging, hopeful, optimistic, positive, heartening, reassuring.
  2. Bill (noun) – A Bill is a draft statute that becomes law after it is passed. All legislative proposals are brought before Parliament in the forms of Bills (or) draft statute/law, proposed legislation, proposal (presented to parliament/congress/council for discussion).
  3. gig worker (noun) – independent contractors or freelancers who typically do short-term work for multiple clients.
  4. herald (verb) – signal, indicate, foretell, point to, announce, spell, usher in.
  5. tidings (noun) – news, information, reports.
  6. on the back of (phrase) – due to, as a result of, because of.
  7. go without saying (phrase) – be obvious that it does not need to be said or explained; be self-evident, be understood, be accepted.

  31. flash strike (noun) – a sudden strike by the employees without giving any prior notice to the employer.
  32. seen in this light (phrase) – it means “to give a different perspective to something”.
  33. welcome (verb) – receive, embrace.
  34. envisage (verb) – conceive, imagine, envision, think, perceive, apprehend.
  35. grievance (noun) – complaint, protestation, protest, criticism, problem, objection.
  36. piece rate basis (noun) – an employment system where the employers pay their employees per item of work completed, rather than per hour or at a fixed yearly salary.
  37. specificity (noun) – the quality of being specific.
  38. corpus (noun) – (in finance) total amount of moneycollection.
  39. Cess (noun) – a form of tax charged/levied over and above the base tax liability of a taxpayer. A cess is usually imposed additionally when the state or the central government looks to raise funds for specific purposes.

  41. Code on Social Security, 2020 (noun) – An Act to amend and consolidate the laws relating to social security with the goal to extend social security to all employees and workers either in the organised or unorganised or any other sectors and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
  42. on paper (phrase) – in theory, theoretically, supposedly.
  43. implementation (noun) – imposition, enforcement, execution, carrying out.
  44. pioneering (adjective) – groundbreaking, trailblazing, pathfinding, ambitious,  progressive, innovative. 
  45. take off (phrasal verb) – succeed, do well, become popular, work out.
  46. measure (noun) – action, step, procedure.
  47. welfare (noun) – well-being, security, prosperity; social security, government/state benefit, public assistance.
