  1. fishy (adjective) – suspicious, questionable, doubtful.
  2. formaldehyde (noun) – formaldehyde is a simple chemical compound made of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. All life forms – bacteria, plants, fish, animals and humans – naturally produce formaldehyde as part of cell metabolism. Formaldehyde is perhaps best known for its preservative and anti-bacterial properties.
  3. contamination (noun) – pollutant, impurity, adulterant.
  4. be lace with (verb) – add, mix, blend a (ingredient to increase flavour or strength).
  5. look for (phrasal verb) – search for, try to find, look around for.

  15. pass off (phrasal verb) – misrepresent as, falsely represent as.
  16. stale (adjective) – dried out,old, past its sell-by date.
  17. criterion (noun) – basis, standard, norm. (criteria is the plural form of criterion).
  18. allay (verb) – reduce, decrease, lessen.
  19. stoke (verb) – (of emotional activity/tendency) encourage, incite, increase.
