Today’s “Phrase of the Day” is “put (someone) in the dock“ and it is a phrase meaning “accuse someone of committing a crime and subject him/her to intense scrutiny; on trial in court, particularly in a criminal case (the “dock” is the enclosed place in a criminal court where a defendant stands or sits during a trial)”.
Example Sentence: Ukraine is not only fighting a brave military battle to defend its sovereignty (authority within territory) but is also using all possible levers under international law against Russia. It has moved international courts such as the ICJ, the International Criminal Court, and the European Court of Human Rights to put Russia in the dock. But nothing seems to dissuade Russian President Vladimir Putin’s revisionist (dissenting) and imperial (arrogant) designs (plans).
