Today’s “Word of the Day” is zoonotic and it is an adjective meaning “used to refer to a disease transmitted from (vertebrate) animals to humans”. Zoonosis (noun) is a disease transmitted from (vertebrate) animals to humans. It is based on the Greek words for “(zoo) animal” and “(nosos) sickness”.
Example Sentence: “The emergence of zoonotic diseases is often associated with environmental changes or ecological disturbances, such as agricultural intensification and human settlement, or encroachments into forests and other habitats,” says UNEP report.
