Today’s “Word of the Day” is “prop up” and it is a phrasal verb meaning “to give support to someone or something otherwise that person/thing would fail/collapse; support, help, aid, assist, bolster (up), shore up, hold up, buttress, undergird, underpin, reinforce, strengthen”.

Example Sentence: French officials said earlier Mr. Macron planned to urge Mr. Xi in talks Thursday to use Beijing’s influence with Russian President Vladimir Putin but didn’t expect a big shift in the Chinese position… China is the biggest buyer of Russian oil and gas, which helps to prop up the Kremlin’s revenue in the face of Western sanctions. That increases Chinese influence, but Mr. Xi appears reluctant to jeopardize (risk) that partnership by pressuring Putin.
