- resilience (noun) – the ability to bounce back quickly from difficulties; strength of character, strength, toughness.
- summit (noun) – meeting, conference, conclave (international meeting/conference of heads of state/government).
- BRICS countries (plural noun) – the acronym coined to associate five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The BRICS members are known for their significant influence on regional affairs. On 1 January 2024, BRICS admitted four new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia has joined Brics, the alliance of major developing countries, along with four other nations.
- Rio declaration (noun) – On Saturday, 6 July, the leaders of the 11 largest emerging economies signed the Joint Declaration of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Entitled “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”, the document seals the group’s commitment to strengthening multilateralism, defending international law, and striving for a more equitable global order. At the 17th high-level leaders’ meeting, BRICS adopted 126 commitments covering global governance, finance, health, artificial intelligence, climate change, and other strategic areas.

- cohesion (noun) – unity, togetherness, solidarity, connection, bond, coherence.
- spotlight (noun) – public attention; public eye; limelight.

- G-7 or Group of Seven (noun) – a multilateral forum made up of the world’s seven largest so-called developed countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. They meet annually to discuss and exchange ideas on a broad range of issues, including global economy, security and energy.

- world/international/global order (noun) – the arrangement of power and authority that provides the system for the conduct of diplomacy and world politics in relation to the entire world.
- global financial order (GFO) (noun) – the system of international financial institutions, rules, and practices that govern global economic relations, including how countries interact through trade, aid, debt, investment, and currency policies.

- P-5 nations (noun) – the Security Council has five permanent members – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States – collectively known as the P5.
- The Global South (noun) – the poor developing countries (of Asia, Africa, South America, amongst others).
- The Global North (noun) – the economically developed countries (of Europe, North America, Australia, amongst others).
- resolution (noun) – a formal decision taken at a meeting with the help of a vote; motion, proposal.
- resolution (noun) – a form in which a legislative body expresses an opinion or a purpose with respect to a given matter or topic (that is temporary in nature).
- energy security (noun) – the uninterrupted availability of energy sources at an affordable price. Energy security has many aspects: long-term energy security mainly deals with timely investments to supply energy in line with economic developments and environmental needs. On the other hand, short-term energy security focuses on the ability of the energy system to react promptly to sudden changes in the supply-demand balance.
- climate change (noun) – a long-term change in the Earth’s climate, or of a region on Earth.
- re-ordering (noun) – reorganization, reconstitution, reestablishment, reshuffle, revamp, reconstruction, restructuring, rearranging.
- World Trade Organization (WTO) (noun) – an intergovernmental organization that is concerned with the regulation of international trade between nations.
- take a view of (phrase) – to have an opinion on something; to form an opinion/perspective on something.
- stern (adjective) – serious; hard, tough.
- move (noun) – activity, step, measure.
- represent (verb) – account for, constitute, make up, compose, comprise, form.
- Gross domestic product (GDP) (noun) – a measure of economic activity in a country. It is the total value of a country’s annual output of goods and service.
- quarter (noun) – one-fourth of something.
- move forward (phrasal verb) – advance, proceed, progress, push forward, forge ahead, make headway, and go on.
