- economic crisis (noun) – a period in an economic cycle in which an economy faces difficulties for a long time.
- a level playing field (phrase) – a situation in which everyone has the equal chance of succeeding.
- bar (verb) – prohibit, debar, forbid, ban.
- field (verb) – nominate, propose, put up (a candidate) to stand in an election.
- pit against (phrasal verb) – to cause someone to fight or compete against another person.

- foreign reserve or forex (noun) – Foreign exchange. Forex or Foreign exchange reserves are the amounts of assets /money in foreign currencies that a country has in its central bank (in India, it is Reserve bank of India).
- talks (noun) – deliberation, discussion, discourse, dialogue, negotiation.
- bailout (noun) – an act of providing financial help/support by the outside investors to a bank/institution/organisation which faces serious financial difficulty.
- magic bullet (noun) – (quick, easy & effective) solution, answer, resolution, way out, remedy, cure, antidote, panacea
- debt-laden (adjective) – burdened with debt.
- debt (noun) – liability, financial obligation, borrowed capital.
