  1. shelter (noun) – protection, shield/cover, safe condition.
  2. Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) (noun) – AIF means any fund established or incorporated in India which is a privately pooled investment vehicle which collects funds from sophisticated investors, whether Indian or foreign, for investing it in accordance with a defined investment policy for the benefit of its investors. Alternative investments refer to many asset classes that fall outside traditional investments and may include hedge funds, private equity, real estate, commodities etc.
  3. revive (verb) – recover, bring back, revitalize.
  4. stressed (adjective) – (of a sector) distressed, troubled, suffering (in debt).
  5. variable (noun) – an element, feature, or factor that is liable to change.
  6. bail out (phrasal verb) – to provide financial help/support by the outside investors to a bank/institution which faces serious financial difficulty.
  7. stalled (adjective) – obstructed, impeded, interrupted.
  8. viable (adjective) – possible, suitable, valid.
  9. non-performing assets (NPAs) (noun) – bad loans, troubled accounts, stressed loans; an account where principal and/or interest remains overdue for a period of time.
  10. line up (phrasal verb) – stand or be arranged in a straight row.
  11. insolvency (noun) – a condition in which the financial difficulties of an individual or organisation are such it is unable to pay its debts. bankruptcy (noun) – legal state of insolvency. An individual or organisation is declared bankrupt if a court judges that the party involved can no longer meet debt payments to creditors. it is defined as the outcome of a legal procedure.
  12. aid (verb) – help, assist, support.
  13. want (noun) – insufficiency, lack, shortage; need.
  14. solvent (adjective) – having assets in excess of liabilities; able to pay one’s debts.
  15. liquidity (noun) – the availability of liquid assets; liquidity means liquid assets; cash; (liquid asset is an asset which can be easily sold/converted into cash without losing its value); a measure of activity (i.e. the ability to buy or sell easily) in a market.
  16. multiplier effect (noun) – the proportional amount of increase in final income that results from an injection of spending;  the change in income to the permanent change in the flow of expenditure.
  17. stand to (phrasal verb) – be in a position, be ready.
  18. reap (verb) – receive, obtain, realize; harvest.
  19. glitch (noun) – problem, difficulty, issue/complication.
  20. bias (noun) – prejudice, partiality, favouritism, unfairness.
  21. creep in (verb) – (of a negative characteristic) occur, happen, develop gradually.
  22. sovereign fund (noun) – a state-owned investment fund.
  23. trickle down effect (noun) – passing on benefits to the people at the bottom of the pyramid eventually by giving tax breaks to those at top of the system and so they earn more (and pass it on to the bottom level people).
  24. successive (adjective) – following, consecutive, succeeding.
  25. rate cut (noun) – a decision by a central bank (like RBI in India) to reduce its main interest rate to the banks (like SBI, ICICI & etc in India) when these commercial banks get money from the central bank. Once this rate goes down, the banks are in a position to give loans at lower interest rates to individuals and the industry.
  26. liquidity infusion (noun) – cash infusion/injection/introduction.
  27. set the stage (phrase) – prepare the circumstances for beginning of something.
